December 2016 Newsletter

Field Goods Pick-Up Location
Field Goods is a subscription-based service that delivers produce from small farms to consumers at community sites year-round.  With the Clubhouse as a pick-up location it would be the next best thing to fresh produce being dropped off at your doorstep!  We have already set up the Clubhouse as a pick-up location so if you’re interested, simply sign up online!  For more information or to sign-up for a delivery, please visit www.field-goods.com or pick up a flyer in the Clubhouse!

Get into the holiday spirit by singing carols around the community.  Hot cocoa and treats will be served in the Clubhouse afterwards.

Community New Year’s Eve Party

Ring in 2017 with your neighbors and friends!  The ball drop will be watched and fun times will be had by all!

November 2016 Newsletter


Be sure to stop into the new Clubhouse and pick up your key fob to access the building outside of operation hours!  The Clubhouse is filled with activities for your enjoyment – come shoot a game of pool with neighbors or organize a movie night on the projector in the Media Room.  The opportunities are endless!  We will be hosting a Grand Opening party for the Clubhouse after the Holiday Party – most likely in January, but the space can be used and reserved!
Starting in December, all monthly Newsletters will be available in the Clubhouse, in the receptacles found throughout the community, The Spinney at Pond View’s website and via e-mail.  Please ensure we have your current e-mail address on file to guarantee online delivery of Newsletters going forward.

Community Pancake Breakfast

Equinox Thanksgiving Volunteers Needed!

Sign up in the Clubhouse if you are interested in volunteering for a great cause this year!

Tai Chi Offering in 2017
We have contracted a YMCA instructor to teach a 50-minute tai chi class taking place on Fridays in 2017 in the Clubhouse.  This class will be a 10-week commitment and the more people who participate, the lower the cost.  To commit to this class we are asking for 12 people with the upfront cost of $50/person.  This cost will pay for the 10 weeks of classes.  Please sign up in the Clubhouse if you are interested!

The Spinney’s String-A-Long group is looking for residents to join in on the fun!  Whether you’re experienced in knitting, crocheting, or cross-stitch, or just starting out, bring in your most recent project and enjoy a social setting with friends and neighbors.

Personal Preparedness Program
Tuesday, October 11th, 1PM
Would you know what to do in a crisis?  This program presented by the Rensselaer County Department of Health will help with that.  Please sign up in the Welcome Center.

Hayride and Bonfire

Enjoy the fall fun at Kristy’s barn!  Please bring a flashlight as it does get darker earlier. children.  Please sign up in the Welcome Center. 

Making Strides Walk for Breast Cancer

Enjoy a walk around Washington Park in Albany for the fight against breast cancer.  Carpools will leave The Spinney at Pond View at 10AM.  If you are unable to walk with the group, you are still welcome to cheer the group on in the park!  Please sign up in the Welcome Center.

AAA Defensive Driving Course
(2 sessions)
Tuesday, October 25th, 9AM – 12PM
Tuesday, November 1st, 9AM – 12PM
Cost: $25 for AAA members,
$30 for non-members
Participate in this 2 session-long defensive driving class and receive money off of your car insurance!  You must attend both sessions to get credit for the course and the cost covers both sessions.  20 people must sign up for the course for it to take place.  Please sign up in the Welcome Center.

Halloween Costume Party
Saturday, October 29th, 7PM
Celebrate Halloween with your friends and neighbors!  Prizes will be provided for best costume and games will be played.  Beverages will be provided, please bring a snack to share!  Sign up in Welcome Center

Clubhouse Update
Construction of The Spinney at Pond View Clubhouse is going well and we are in the final stages of construction.  We are hoping for an early fall opening (hopefully in the month of October) and look forward to celebrating with all Spinney residents soon!

Bocce Games

Addams Family

Chair Yoga
Wednesdays (starting Wednesday, September 7th) at 10AM
Cost: $8 for 4-week class
Spinney resident, Joan Haggerty, recently relocated to Castleton to be nearer to her children.  Joan has been teaching yoga continuously since 1979.  Joan is very passionate about teaching others about the benefits of the yoga practice as it has assisted with her own recovery and management of health challenges throughout the years.  Joan will be teaching this 4-week course starting Wednesday, September 7th.  Joan requires a 4-week commitment for this course to be successful.  Please sign up in the Clubhouse and bring payment to first class on September 7th

Backyard Courtesies
Please be courteous of other residents when walking with pets or by yourselves behind the cottages of others.  The backside of all cottages are main living dwellings and you may startle someone not expecting a neighbor in their backyard.  Everyone greatly appreciates the courtesy so thank you in advance!

Town-Wide Garage Sale
Saturday, June 4th
Looking to clean out your closets or garage?  Now’s the perfect time!  Join in on the town-wide garage sale and make some money on the items you do not want anymore.  For safety reasons throughout the community, The Spinney’s participation in this garage sale will take place in the parking lot of the Commercial Building located at 2500 Pond View.  Please sign up in the Welcome Center.

Time Warner Digital Adapter Instal
Monday, June 6th
Time Warner Cable (TWC) is transitioning to 100% digital.  If you have any TVs in your cottage which only have “standard basic cable” service (which is included in your rental agreement with The Spinney), TWC will be providing digital adapters for your TV(s).  A representative from TWC will be at our property on Monday, June 6th to install digital adapters for those residents who have TVs with ONLY standard basic cable.  Please stop by the Leasing Office to pick up a copy of an e-mail that was sent out to all residents if you did not receive it.  This letter will provide more information about the change and how it affects you.  If you have any questions, please call the Leasing Office at (518) 479-0800.

Garage Reminders
Please remember that your garage is not to solely be used for storage of items or for any other reason besides the parking of a vehicle (Rule 2 in your Lease).  If you have 2 drivers in your cottage, please ensure that one car is parked in the garage while the other is parked in your driveway.  In addition, garage doors are to be kept closed when not in use.

Resident Bible Study

Just a reminder that this study is open to all residents.  At the May 12th meeting, a new study will begin in the Gospel of John.  Make your plans to attend and learn of God’s promises that give us hope for today and eternity.

Resident Interest: Game Night?
A sign-up sheet will be included in the Welcome Center to gauge interest in groups that may want to play popular games.  If you are interested in a game night that would feature games such as cribbage, double pinochle, bridge, etc., please express your interest on this sheet.

Schodack Garage Sale

This event is being featured 2 months in advance to ensure you have enough time to collect items you may want to feature in the town-wide garage sale.  The Spinney at Pond View will be featured in a map created by the Town of those areas participating.  Please save the date!  More information to come as the date nears.

February 2016 Newsletter

National Grid Interruption
Saturday, February 13th, 12PM
We are SO excited about the progress that the new Clubhouse has taken in the past few weeks!  National Grid has informed us that part of construction efforts for this building requires a temporary service interruption to provide electricity to the structure.  This is an unfortunate inconvenience, but a necessary part of us bringing this Clubhouse to you.  Weather permitting, the interruption in service will begin at 12PM and should last a few hours.  National Grid cannot work in weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow, etc., so in the event that any of these are present on February 13th, the alternate date for interruption is Saturday, February 20th.  In the event that the interruption is rescheduled, we will provide notice to each of you.  All residents will receive an automated voice message from National Grid 48 hours prior to service interruption.  If you have any questions regarding the interruption in service please contact the office for more information. 

Zumba GOLD
Saturdays, 9AM
Zumba GOLD will be offered the following Saturdays in February: February 6th, 20th, and 27th in the Welcome Center.  There will be NO ZUMBA CLASS on February 13th.

Lunch at Casola Dining Room - SCCC

Have lunch at the Schenectady Community College Casola Dining Room.  Sign up in the Welcome Center to enjoy some tasty creations.

Trip to Turning Stone Casino
